An Inquiring Mind…Wants To Know

Posted in Guest Blog Posts

Just asking!
WHY do we continue to subsidize GMO crops, when it is common knowledge that they disrupt our endocrine system at the cellular level and cause many chronic (unhealthy and costly) ailments including obesity, diabetes, cancer and estrogen-charged fibroids? WHY?
WHY do we believe that using the ER as our  primary health care(and only health care)  is a perfectly acceptable form of health care? Care!, forsooth!!WHY?
Why is it okay to advertise sugar-laden cereals, chemical-laden food(convenience-food) and sodas to our most-cherished… children? Why do we then wonder what is/are the reason(s) that children are becoming obese with each passing year? WHY?
WHY is it so difficult (collectively) to understand that an insurance company is not health CARE? That they are nothing more than a for-profit middleman(agent) that collects your money (at 30%) and then proceed to tell YOU and your doctor “no you can not have a procedure..DENIED!!” Why protect the insurance companies? WHY?
WHY is it perfectly fine to spend a gazillion dollars (on a military-industrial-complex) to kill people, but scream and carry on like crazy people when dollars are allotted to help and aid our neediest citizens? WHY?
WHY is it taking so long to ban BPA (a known endocrine-disruptor composed of an estrogen substance) from all plastics and ban its use for the lining in all can-goods? Other countries have banned BPA, why not us? WHY?
WHY are zygotes and blastocysts in need of protection and deemed more important than walking/living/breathing people? WHY?
WHY can’t we utter the word “moral” when debating the need to cover all people through a comprehensive single-payer healthcare system? When did “morality” become a word-non-grata? WHY
WHY is it called socialistic when people show moral-indignation towards the profiteering in health care. The fire department, the police the school system and mass transit are all “socialistic-run” institutions. Is that so awful? WHY?
WHY is it that soda and packaged processed chemical-laden dreck (food) is more accessible and cheaper, forsooth, than fresh produce? WHY?
WHY is estrogen-mimicking substances, like birth-control, found in our water systems…and you don’t even know about this!?? WHY?
WHY do we let business influence the laws that are written to regulate the very safety-rules of these businesses. And then we wonder why our water becomes polluted and people become so ill? WHY?
WHY is it that since the 1970′s, alternative integrative (and cheap!) health care is still looked at as voodoo-science? But has proved itself over and over again in the realm of  both cure and prevention! WHY?
WHY is gym and recess the first to go-by-the-wayside when schools start eliminating classes. Then we wonder why children are disruptive, obese and unhealthy? WHY?
WHY can’t we project our goals, see beyond the end of our noses, and understand that prevention is healthier and cheaper in the long-run? WHY?
WHY are we the only country that allows the advertising of pharmaceuticals to its citizens? They are allowed to brainwash us into thinking that we are all ill…we just haven’t realized it yet! WHY?
WHY don’t we understand that EVERY pill has side effects? That they are not a panacea!? That they should not be the first approach to a health problem…but the last?! Look at what has occurred with antibiotic abuse! And pills for depression! (the “new” finding is that movement…walking, running, swimming etc…is THE best “medicine” for depression!) Why don’t we know this? WHY?
WHY are the cost of drugs and tests and treatments soooo much more expensive in this country? Our tax dollar$ help to subsidize the R&D and then we are charged exorbitant amount$? WHY?
WHY is it that we pay our most important professionals sub-par wages, but we pay entertainers (often talentless ones at that!)  unconscionably enormous wages$? Teachers are the life-blood of our society, why not pay them justly? WHY?
WHEW!!! I know that I have been all-over-the-board with my “inquiring mind wants to know?”…but I have so many unanswered questions as to the motivation of our collective mind-set. I am so confused as to why our priorities and efforts lay so heavily in accumulating stuff! That our priorities of both prevention(and the education thereof) and individual responsibilities, somehow have morphed into gimmee-gimmee-gimmee, me-me-me, now-now-now!
Harken back 202 years ago, when a much-beloved poet, William Wordsworth, wrote the beautiful lines that have drummed repeatedly in my head and have helped to guide this ol’ broad…forever!

“The world is too much with us; late and soon
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers,
Little do we see in Nature that is ours…”
