About a month ago I actually signed-up to join “something!” I know, big shocker, but let me explain. There is not a day that spins by, that I am not solicited — or gently requested — to partake in the membership of one group or another. Don’t miss-understand my un-intentions! My NOT joining a particular organization has nothing to do with NOT believing in the essence or core of that said group…no no no, on the contrary…it is BECAUSE I place a deep value in the associations main goal that I am unable to just pay-them-rhetorical-lip-service by “joining.” For what!? If I am not capable of adding some real real real meaning to an organization, what is the point of just putting my name on something? Alas, in these wisdom-filled years that are left, I actually know what I am good for…and NOT!
So that ( gobbley-gook) being said, last month I became a member of Dr. Susan Love’s “An Army of Women” organization. I put the coin in, turned the stile, and proudly signed up…to help.
Dr. Love’s purpose for initiating her “army” into a single joint-effort, was based on her life’s dedication to curing/treating women with breast cancer. Dr. Love, in her wise and experiential, dedicated eagerness to rid the world of breast cancer, realized that curing is not the answer…totally! She wants to know WHY? WHY do women/men get breast cancer, at all? WHY?
Dr. Love (with others, I am assuming) took that core mission and developed a questionnaire, that when all of the answers and facts are culled, THEN we may have a way of PREVENTING this wretched/pervasive disease!
Which of course brings me to fibroids, and…”What causes fibroids?” This question is indubitably the single-most posited query that one finds when reading any fibroid-related information. “Just what causes these benign growths to form in the first place??”
To date, there are a few characteristics that are applied when discussing the causes of fibroids, but no one knows for certain. Some of those “reasons” are alcohol consumption, sedentary life-style, ethnicity (African-Americans have a higher percentage,) obesity, and non-childbearing. Well, well, well, not one of these “causes”…NOT ONE…could be applied to me (and frankly, many other women that I know!!!) So now what?
Here’s my proposal (primarily because I love the concept of “prevention”…in every realm), I would like a questionnaire developed and resourced, so that we may pin-point the exact source and etiology of these fricken-fracken FIBROIDS. (Having read this blogger before, YOU already know what my suspicions are!) Not until we have gathered an unbiased “bunch-of-info” from women (with fibroids,) and put this info together, and somehow make sense of it all…until then, we shall forever have to deal-with-these-dreadful-devils…fibroids, forsooth!!
