It happens that this was a very very busy week. I had more emails and phone conversations from women seeking fibroid information and treatment solutions, than I have ever ever received to date!! And as we discussed their individual issues with fibroids, each and every lovely lady became disgusted (and enraged) when the talk turned to insurance (and the lack there of!!)!!
To quote my very own blog posting from last week (pertaining to focused ultrasound), “WHY IS THIS PROCEDURE NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE? WHY, IF GIVEN THE CHOICE OF NON-INVASIVE (FOCUSED ULTRASOUND) VERSUS INVASIVE (HYSTERECTOMY), DO WOMEN ONLY GET TO ”PICK” THE INVASIVE PROCEDURE?? “
Sorry, about “screaming this”, but truly I needed to. It absolutely-positively makes no sense to me, or to the thousands of other women that would like the CHOICE of opting for focused ultrasound as their fibroid treatment, as opposed to the other invasive (all covered by insurance) treatments that are allowed/available, why THIS is not an insurable option.
Making a case for choosing a non-invasive (NON-hospital involved) treatment is easy easy EASY!
♥ Even with the most talented surgeon (the body cares not of the doc’s credentials) and at the finest hospital, surgery is trauma. And trauma is forever!!!
♥ Quote from Dr. Ernst Bartsich, MD; a gynecological surgeon at Weill-Cornell Medical Center…he said, “Our profession is entrenched in terms of doing hysterectomies. I’m not proud of that. It may be an acceptable procedure, but it isn’t necessary in so many cases. From 75-85% may be UNnecessary!”
♥According to Dr. Oz (and other credited authorities), the number one reason for morbidity in this great country of ours leans squarely on the shoulders of “hospital errors!!”
♥ Hospital errors account for one in 10 patients — almost 100,000 people all told — experiencing a safety incident AND reulted in death!
♥ In dollars-and-cents, these errors amount to 8.9 billion in real-costs.
♥ Hospitals, around this great country, make 40,000 medical mistakes a day!. This amounts to 1/3 of all costs that the United States spends for “health care” !!!
Making the case to stay out of a hospital (except for emergencies, of course) seems so fundamental to me and to millions of others. No one would elect to have a hospital stay, with a traumatic and brutal uterus-removal for a BENIGN condition…no one! But women are “forced” to this end, simply because the non-invasive treatment is not offered by insurance and it is very expensive!! In my world-of-shoulds, this would be unlawful, unlawful to deny any women that wishes to choose a non-invasive treatment choice…if THIS was what she wanted. Oh yes, my world-of-shoulds would most certainly insure a perfectly acceptable, fabulous-end-resulting, less-costly both in time-‘n-money, non-invasive treatment for fibroids…FOCUSED ULTRASOUND!!! And ya know what, I ain’t givin’ up on this issue that’s for darn sure!! ♥
