Somethin’ New…Somethin’ New!

Posted in Guest Blog Posts

I am a very very grateful Focused Ultrasound-treated patient (oh so successfully, I might add) and thus I have become ’it’s' loud-mouthed proponent, as well. And I shall continue to be vociferous and cage-rattling until such time as the insurance companies insure this phenominal procedure! But this  is not  ( necessarily) the threaded-theme of todays blog.
Just as there are millions of women that are afflicted with these (fiendish) fibroids, each and every last one of those wonderous women deserves to have a treatment that fits HER particular needs…as an individual, not as a group! A womans age, the type of fibroid, the location of fibroid, the symptoms of the fibroid and a woman’s wish to become pregnant (or not,) are but some of the variables when making the correct treatment-choice for a fibroid erradication. And because I believe so strongly in the rights of every woman to have all of her  options presented to her…I come bearing information that could lead to yet another treatment option!

“Preglem announces positive Phase III results for EsmyaTM as an effective treatment for uterine fibroids.”

In my researching this popped-up, and heres what I found out…
♥ Preglem is a European specialty biopharmaceutical company primarily focused on women’s reproductive medicine. They make EsmyaTM.
♥EsmyaTM is the drug that is being tested and trialed for the treatment of uterine fibroids. They are comparing this (drug) to the only currently approved (drug) treatment, GnRH. (Which I wrote about in a previous blog, “My Magical Mystery Tour On Lupron!)
♥ 307 patients participated in a randomized, parallel group, double-blind, double-dummy (I kid you not,) multi-center study. They compared EsmyaTM (5 mg. or 10 mg.) orally, once a day…with that of Leuprorelin (3.75 mg) injected monthly.
♥ After 3 months of treatment EsmyaTM showed to be safer and better-tolerated than Leuprorelin (Lupron). The data demonstrated that EsmyaTM is effective in (rapidly) controlling (excessive) bleeding, reducing that awful pain, and reducing the size of the fibroid…all without those castration-related symtoms and their consequences that Lupron has (can have) on the individual.
♥ This drug EsmyaTM (which blocks the progesterone receptors in target tissues) has the potential to be the very first medicine-styled-treatment for fibroids…and if the studies continue to prove safe, with no real serious side effects, then we shall have another treatment choice!
♥ ”The resulting data is very promising. There has been a lack of innovative and effective products to treat uterine fibroids (medically.) This is a significant and distressing problem for many women and has a serious impact on their lives. These results clearly illustrate the potential for EsmyaTM to offer an effective and well tolerated treatment for this condition.” That was a quote from the Principal investigator, Professor Jacques Donnez at Louvain University in Belgium.
Uterine fibroids impair the quality of ones life in such horrific ways that many women take  the ultimate-sacrifice-route and succumb to a hysterectomy. Awful, simply awful.
It delights me so when I read that money$,  or trials, or new treatments are being funneled towards the ridding of these ferocious fibroids. In the case with EsmyaTM, there will be a lot more information published this June…stay tuned. :-D

ps. ♥♥ It has been 6 years…a full 312 weeks…and Focused Ultrasound has not yet been insured!! Insure it please ~~ IT WORKS!!!♥♥
