Researchers are recruiting women for clinical trials on MR-guided focused ultrasound in seven locations throughout the U.S. Those who qualify can receive focused ultrasound treatment for uterine fibroids free of charge. There may be some out-of-pocket costs associated with an office visit or an MRI, but it may be possible to have these items covered by insurance or the study sponsor.
The exciting news about this trial is that it uses new enhanced sonication techniques that allow for treatment of up to 100% of the fibroid volume. Previously only a portion of the fibroid could be treated. This means that women will have potentially even better results from an already successful treatment!
Sites currently recruiting are located in Houston, TX; Charlottesville, VA; San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles, CA; Durham, NC; and Kalamazoo, MI. Researchers will soon be looking for participants in Boca Raton, FL. (Please call Fibroid Relief for San Francisco contact info as it is not yet listed on the trial’s web page.)
Participants must meet eligibility criteria, two of which include 1) not wanting to conceive a baby in the future (though many women have conceived after focused ultrasound) and 2) being willing to attend multiple study visits. For complete eligibility criteria and contact info, please click here.
