I have been living with fibroids since I was 18 years old. Over the years they’ve just continue to grow and cause other concerns. In 2009 I had a MRI done and the doctor said they found 17 fibroids and possibly more if they were too small for detection. He said my abdomen looks as if I was 7 months pregnant. That was really devastating considering the fact that I currently do not have any children and desperately wanted children. He said they ranged in size from 4cm with the largest one being 12 centimeters.
We first tried an Uterine Fibroid Embolization, but that only shrunk them 50 pct. A year later I had a myomectomy removing 9 of 17 fibroids. I was going through all of this, to proceed with IVF, but after one failed cycle we’re back at square one because the fibroids have grown back again and the doctor says I need to have another myomectomy.
It has been really difficult living with fibroids and knowing I may never be able to conceive. But I’m not giving up on my desire to have children. I’m really glad this site is available for those like me, and we can encourage and offer support to one another.
